Robinson Crusoe is an English adventure novel by Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. The story is very loosely inspired by the life of Alexander Selkirk. Written in the first person, the main plot of the novel takes place on a desert island where Robinson, after being shipwrecked, lived for 28 years. During his stay, he met a “savage” whom he named Friday. The two companions lived together for several years before being able to leave the island.
